Maria Mejia - Associate

Maria Del Mar Mejia is a Colombian attorney pursuing an LL.M degree in Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law at Fordham University School of Law. 
 
Maria’s everlasting interest in law and her ability with technology have provoked her an emerging passion for the common ground of both fields. Her goal is to fulfill the role of a lawyer capable of fully understanding the technology and its laws and their implications on the financial market, being able to confront the grand challenges and opportunities of the digital future.
 
Maria currently serves as an associate at the Wall Street Blockchain Alliance where she plans to address the upcoming challenges in the financial market, advocating for changes in the current legal framework within new technologies by enhancing technology through the lens of comprehensive legislation with more considerable attention to guide and promote the adoption of blockchain technology across global markets. 
 
In 2019, Maria obtained her LL. B from Universidad del Rosario in Colombia, where she graduates with honors and a specialization in Commercial law. While in law school, Maria was a member of the Business Law Clinic, where she provided free legal assistance in the non-litigation matter to small businesses, nonprofits organizations, and entrepreneurs. 
 
As a young lawyer, Maria’s professional background and experience are related to Pro Bono work and community development by providing legal assistance. She volunteered for the New York Legal Assistance Group at the Mobile Legal Help Center, and she was awarded an international Pro Bono internship in Santiago, Chile. 
 
During the Summer of 2020, Maria will serve as an audit and compliance summer Intern for New York City Cyber Command. Maria will be protecting City infrastructure and critical systems from cyber threats and helping residents become safer in their digital lives, working to incorporate and adapt essential advances in technology to enforce policies and procedures with regards to cybersecurity.
